Your
guide to acting as a referrer
As a ‘referrer’ of Aon Products , real estate agents can
act as a 'referrer with the capacity to perform some limited
cashiers and clerks functions' (referrer) in relation to our
insurance products. This is based on the very important assumption
that you are referring and will not be providing any financial
service, as defined by FSR.
By following our model and the guidelines outlined below,
you and your staff will not get caught under FSR or be required
to undergo the extensive training, compliance and administration
processes that would otherwise be required under FSR.
To ensure that you are not considered to be a business that
needs to be licensed or authorised under Financial Services
Reform (FSR), there are a number of guidelines in respect
of your conduct as a referrer of insurance products to Aon
that we are obliged to inform you of, that you must follow.
These guidelines are as follows:
- You can only give factual information to a client. You
cannot give advice, make a recommendation or give an opinion
that may influence a client’s decision to purchase insurance.
A Rental Protection Plus Insurance Fact Sheet has been developed
to make this easy for you.
- You can provide the client with access to documentation
or information about our insurance products and services.
You can actively draw a client’s attention to the existence
of the documentation or information, however you should
ask them to contact Aon directly should they wish to purchase
a policy.
- You can assist the client in completing a form. This
can only occur after the client has made a decision to purchase
and is limited to providing factual information or inserting
information at their direction. Aon Personal Insurance has
removed the need for the completion of application forms
for landlords' insurance and all new policies can be purchased
by telephoning Aon Personal Insurance on 1800 105
900.
- You can pass on information to the insurer, if asked
to do so by the client. You are able to obtain a quotation
for an insurance policy only if instructed to do so by the
client, and when the client has provided you with all the
relevant information that is required to obtain a quotation.
- You cannot affect insurance on behalf of a client. The
client must apply for the relevant cover and the insurer
must communicate back to the client the terms on which cover
has been entered into (this may come via your office). Disclosure
information required by an insurer can only be provided
by the client.
- You can collect the premium from the client and forward
it to the insurer. You can pay the premium for the client,
if instructed to do so by the client (instructions can be
granted in your Property Management Agreement with the landlord).
We have also introduced an extended range of payment
options.
- You must tell your clients at the time you refer them
to Aon Personal Insurance of the remuneration you may receive
if they accept our offer of insurance. Refer to our information
on commission
disclosure.

of Aon Products please contact our Real Estate Agent
